January 6 1-6-21 By Joe Peters
We watched it all, on the TV screen
They climbed the steps, & scaled the walls
Then he came on, & poured gasoline
They broke in windows, and breached the halls
Everywhere, I saw the flag
Waving high, above the crowd
They wore the hat, but not the mask
They all high-fived, & strutted proud
The day they stormed the capitol, a day of infamy
Democracy under attack, for all the world to see
The mob that stormed the capitol, did his bidding full of hate
They occupied DC today, In America the Great
They chose the man, over Truth
Now blood’s been spilled, up on the Hill
They believed Fake News, and the Twitter too
They tried their best, to trump the people’s will
Today they stormed the capitol, a day of infamy
Democracy under attack, for all the world to see
The mob that stormed the capitol, did his bidding full of hate
They occupied DC today, In America the Great
Insurrection in the capitol, in America the Great

Selfie By Joe Peters, January 2021
Verse 1
Smile for the camera, take another selfie
Make sure the angle’s just right
Smile for the camera, all the cool kids agree
At the prom you were outta sight
PC
It starts out when you’re young and so naïve
Chorus
The smiles full of vanity
Mouthfuls of profanity
Tiny hearts and heads as big as kings
Worship of the self and all that brings
Verse 2
Smile for the camera, shake your money maker
You put it out there on the web
Smile for the camera, how long did it take ya
To make six figures and never leave the bed?
PC
She lures you in with diamonds up her sleeve
Chorus
The smiles full of vanity
Mouthfuls of profanity
Tiny hearts and heads as big as kings
Worship of the self and all that brings
Verse 3
Smile for the camera, as you attack the nation
Be sure to post it all online
Smile for the camera, selfie-incrimination
You busted yourself this time!
PC
He draws you down the hole till you believe
Chorus
The smiles full of vanity
Mouthfuls of profanity
Tiny hearts and heads as big as kings
Worship of the self and all that brings
Tag
Smile for the camera, take another selfie…

Family Farm
Words & music by Joe Peters & Cheryl Fletcher ©October-December 2021
INTRO
VERSE 1
The forest welcomes autumn, leaves a shimmering gold
I’m walking through the gentle woods, so far from the road
I know that I have found my way, I stop and stand alone
There before me I can see, the story of my home
CHORUS
Grandad tilled the land ‘round here, but the bills kept piling year on year
Family farm hangs by a thread, as auction day draws near
VERSE 2
They planted the bottomland, where floods had left their silt
They readied for the harvest, the corn crib soon was built
They were the first to farm this land, up to their ears in corn
They soon would build another crib, when their first child was born
CHORUS
Grandad tilled the land ‘round here, but the bills kept piling year on year
Family farm hangs by a thread, as auction day draws near
INSTRUMENTAL BREAK
VERSE 3
Our legacy has now been lost, this grandson forced to sell
Nothing sure ‘cept death and tax, and my family farm death knell

Superman's Lament

Superman’s Lament
What now? ... the land-lines are down
Power’s gone off, at least on this side of town
Stores are boarded up, the phone booth is broke
Superman’s got nowhere to change, is this some kind of joke?
I woke up from a bad dream, the sky was ashen grey
I still remember one scene, like it was yesterday
The forest was aflame, the town wasn’t safe
Superman made it rain, the mighty hero saved the day
Across the sea flood waters came, threatening the helpless
The Man of Steel true to his name, helped the people in distress
With the coastal cities sinking, and the bridges falling too
He jumped in without blinking, Superman to the rescue
So many generations, asleep at the wheel
Industrial nations, were in on the deal
But now there is a price to pay, and Superman can’t save us
Planet Earth has been betrayed, we all know this much
Superman can’t save the day, that part’s up to us
Over in Paris, they’ve signed some accord
Too little too late, for the rising storm
We thought it’d last forever, wouldn’t give up our cars
Only billionaires survive … on a rocket ship to Mars
What now? … the phone booth is gone
Superman’s got nowhere to change, so he can’t move on
Sidewalks are crumbling, the railings are bent
Clark Kent’s at the office, he’s gotta pay the rent
Lois Lane’s working from home these days, Superman’s Lament

Grass Ain’t Always Greener
Words by Frederick Michaels, music by Joe Peters, June 1, 2021
V1: staring at the lawn
out in the summer heat
all the blades are crying
here beneath my feet
across the fence my neighbor's
is as brown as mine
the grass ain't always greener
on the other side
Chorus: well, the grass ain't always greener
I said the grass ain't always greener
don't give your lawn some water
you can watch it fry
the grass ain't always greener
on the other side
V2: pours out fertilizer
like it’s grass cocaine
pulls each weed with tweezers
like a man insane
his well went dry in April
‘bout the same day as mine
our lawns are both so burned up
glad I didn’t waste my time
Chorus:
Break:
V3: he can spend his cash
to try and keep his green
I would rather spend mine
on a change of scene
my neighbor trucks in water
while I fly to the beach
the grass there isn’t greener
but there’s more fun in reach
Chorus:
Tag: No, the grass ain’t always greener
I said the grass ain’t always greener
don't sell your soul in envy
of the other guy
the grass ain't always greener
on the other side

Dandelions

Dandelions Word by Liz E. Brooks, music by Joe Peters
My neighbor has a perfect lawn, his grass is soft & green
He clips & trims a man possessed, attacking every weed
My yard – I kinda leave it alone, I mow it once in awhile
I grow a few tomato plants & let the weeds go wild
He does his thing and I do mine
Whatever makes us happy, well, that’s just fine
It’s a big wide world & it takes all kinds
Some people like roses, I like dandelions
My neighbor’s kids go to private schools, they all drive SUVs
Bumper stickers brag about grades, or the traveling soccer teams
My kids go to public school, they bring home Cs & Bs
If they get last chair in orchestra, that’s ok with me
They do their thing and I do mine
Whatever makes us happy, well, that’s just fine
It’s a big wide world & it takes all kinds
Some people like roses, I like dandelions
You do your thing and I’ll do mine
Whatever makes us happy well now that’s just fine
Hey I’m glad to be alive
Some people likes roses, I like dandelions

This Day in America
02:59
|
|||
1-20-21 By Joe Peters
This day in America, the sun came out again
This day in America, we say our grace, amen
By the power of example, we honor our past
Reimagining the future, we build one that will last
By example of our unity, we end uncivil war
We the people have spoken, what are we fighting for
This day in America, the sun came out again
This day in America, we say our grace, amen
From those who came before us, strong is the foundation
We hold these truths self-evident, heart & soul of the nation
For those who will come after us, ordinary people
We’re called on in this moment, to be ordinary heroes
This day in America, the sun came out again
This day in America, we say our grace, amen

Sleep Tight, My Little Angel
Words by Frederick Michaels, music by Joe Peters
V1: If I sing you this song,
will you show me a smile?
I’ll keep it all life long,
though that be only a while.
If you recollect me,
try to think of this song.
When you're grown, I’ll have left,
yet my heart in the song beats on.
Chorus: A raft of joys arrive mid-storm
and gloom of night,
and what was wrong for you
is suddenly made right.
Sleep tight,
my little angel,
sleep tight.
V2: In a blink of an eye,
the gears of time will turn.
What awaits us, you and I,
we must wait a while to learn.
If it’s fate I’m not here
when the hard rain comes ‘round,
let this song quell your fear,
and the spirit of love calm you down.
Chorus:
Break:
Bridge: My lasting love for you
will always help to see you through.
Invisible and without sound,
its armor wraps you round and round.
Chorus:
